Kiel on the Baltic Sea

Kiel is practically built around water, which is why water-based activities make up a large part of the leisure option. In the summer, visitors can bathe at one of the numerous beaches and boat trips are also an absolute highlight. Children love the seal pool at the fjord and adults enjoy a leisurely shopping trip in the pedestrian zone.

What to see in Kiel
Kiel Kunsthalle (art) and the Maritime Museum offer excellent cultural activities. You can take a multimedia journey to the stars in the "Mediendom" planetarium. The aquarium with seal pool situated right on Kiel Fjord is a popular destination for groups and families, especially at feeding time.


Event highlights: "Kieler Woche"

The world-famous "Kieler Woche", held every year in June, is a meeting place for sailing enthusiasts from around the world. During the races, there are more than 1,000 boats in Kiel Fjord. The highlight is the boat parade. On the mainland, visitors to the "Kieler Woche" can enjoy a festival with colourful stalls and numerous music events.


Swimming and beaches around Kiel

The beaches on the fjord and the Baltic Sea can easily be reached by bus or boat. The outdoor swimming pool is just a 15-minute walk from the hostel. The indoor swimming pool is right next to the hostel.


Kite surfing
Whizzing through the waves - enjoy the freedom! There's a large selection of beaches around Kiel, which provide idea kite surfing conditions, depending on the wind direction. The kite surfing courses of the Up-Wind kite surfing school are ideal for beginners. more


Surfing
Falckenstein beach is an ideal area for surfing. The Westwind sailing school offers courses. In addition to surfboards and catamarans, guests also have two VB dinghies at their disposal. more


High ropes course

The HIGH SPIRITS forest and natural high ropes course offers visitors the unique feeling of height! Directly on Falckenstein beach, you can climb platforms, balance on rope bridges and swing from tree to tree. With experiential educational concepts, groups can playfully experience and develop social skills. more


Freilichtmuseum Molfsee
Farmhouses, cottages, barns, windmills and the workshops of village craftsmen from all the provinces of Schleswig-Holstein can be seen on the 60 hectare site of the open-air museum with accompanying furniture, household items and tools. A really great destination in fine weather and highly recommended. more
